Well the shortlist is out and Texas remains well represented.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-24\"><span id=\"u17229\"><span id=\"u17230\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"245\" height=\"121\" src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/pen%20short%20list_tierce%2c%20merritt.jpg\"  id=\"u17230_img\" \/><\/span><\/span>Finalists for the Robert W. Bingham Prize for Debut Fiction ($25,000) include Texas-born <span>Cynthia Bond<\/span> for  (Hogarth, 2014), also an Oprah Book Club 2.0 pick, and Dallasite <span>Merritt Tierce<\/span> for <span>Love Me Back<\/span> (Doubleday, 2014).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-32\"><span>S.C. \u201cSam\u201d Gwynne\u2019s<\/span> <span>Rebel Yell: The Violence, Passion, and Redemption of Stonewall Jackson <\/span>(Scribner, 2014) is a finalist for the Jacqueline Bograd Weld Award for Biography ($5,000). A former executive editor of <span id=\"u17210-30\">Texas Monthly<\/span> and lecturer at the University of Texas School of Journalism, Gwynne lives in Austin.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-41\">Dallas\u2019s Deep Vellum Publishing\u2019s debut release, <span>Texas: the Great Theft,<\/span> by <span>Carmen Boullosa,<\/span> translated from the Spanish by Texan <span>Samantha Schnee<\/span> of Words Without Borders, is a finalist for the Translation Prize ($3,000).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-44\">PEN American has been honoring literary achievement for more than fifty years. The winners will be announced on May 13 with a ceremony following at The New School\u2019s Auditorium in New York on June 8.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-47\">Good luck and congratulations to these fine representatives of the literary craft. Y\u2019all do Texas proud.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-52\"><span id=\"u17217\"><span id=\"u17218\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"14\" src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/dottedline480.jpg\"  id=\"u17218_img\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"u17210-54\">Area books and authors featured at Lubbock Arts Festival, Apr. 18\u201319<\/h1>\n<p id=\"u17210-58\"><span>Books and authors are a vibrant part of the arts scene<\/span> at the 37th annual Lubbock Arts Festival, which will occupy the entire Lubbock Memorial Civic Center (1501 Mac Davis Lane, Lubbock, TX 79401) Sat, April 18 and Sun., April 19, 2015. The festival is the largest of its kind in West Texas.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-63\">In addition to featured artist <span>Berkley White,<\/span> an internationally renowned underwater photographer born and raised in Lubbock, and hundreds of other artists, exhibitors, and performers, the festival will include members of the Write Right writers&#8217; group with authors available to sign books throughout the event, and writing activities for children. Literacy Lubbock will also be on hand with kids&#8217; books, and Texas Tech University Press will offer a variety of Texas and Southwest books at discount prices.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-66\">Festival hours are 10 am to 7 pm Saturday and noon to 5 om Sunday. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children under 12<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-70\"><span id=\"u17214\"><span id=\"u17215\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"481\" height=\"14\" src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/dottedline480.jpg\"  id=\"u17215_img\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"u17210-72\">Cisco writers to host 15 authors Apr. 25-26<\/h1>\n<p id=\"u17210-76\"><span>The Cisco Writers Club of Cisco, Texas,<\/span> will host its first-ever Book Look, to be held Sat., April 25 and Sun., April 26, in conjunction with the Cisco FolkLife Festival.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u17210-80\">To date fifteen invited authors, covering a wide-range of genres, will attend and sign their books:\u00a0 <span>Dr. Duane Hale \u2022 Anna Albergucci \u2022 A.R. Draeger \u2022\u00a0Marsha Vermillion \u2022 Ophelia London \u2022\u00a0Amanda M.
