The cartoon has Cliburn announcing to the audience, \u201cFor my encore, I\u2019d like to do \u2018Waltz Across Texas\u2019 in B-flat.\u201d On Aug. 2, 1973, the infamous Chicken Ranch brothel closed in LaGrange. The cartoon has a couple showing up and telling the madam, \u201cWe\u2019ve come for the close-out prices on them chickens.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u35373-41\">In another entry, Moore notes that \u201cup to 200 Texas historical markers are added yearly, though not all applications are approved.\u201d The cartoon has a wife\u2019s application being turned down for \u201cTexas\u2019 Most Lazy Man Lives Here.\u201d The book includes some interesting but not well known facts, such as: When the nine-banded armadillo \u2014 the state\u2019s official small mammal \u2014 gives birth, she always has four identical offspring. Here\u2019s another: The Popeye cartoon character got his start in Texas.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u35373-46\">Moore\u2019s cartoons also appear throughout the <span id=\"u35373-44\">Texas Correct Calendar<\/span> he publishes every year. The calendar begins with March 2 \u2014 Texas Independence Day \u2014 instead of the more traditional January 1.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u35373-48\">* * * * *<\/p>\n<p id=\"u35373-55\"> The University of Texas Press has published a collection of scholarly essays examining <span><a href=\"http:\/\/utpress.utexas.edu\/index.php\/books\/wilson-lbj-neglected-legacy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>LBJ\u2019s Neglected Legacy: How Lyndon Johnson Reshaped Domestic Polity &#038; Government<\/span><\/a><\/span> ($29.95 paperback, 480 pages).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u35373-63\"><span>Robert H. Wilson<\/span> (UT), <span>Norman Glickman<\/span> (Rutgers), and <span>Laurence E. Lynn Jr<\/span>. (formerly UT, now University of Chicago) edited the volume and contributed the introductory and concluding essays.
