{"id":340,"date":"2018-12-31T11:51:30","date_gmt":"2018-12-31T11:51:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.etypegoogle10.com\/?p=340"},"modified":"2018-12-31T11:51:30","modified_gmt":"2018-12-31T11:51:30","slug":"texas-reads-archiveglenn-dromgoole-31","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.etypegoogle10.com\/?p=340","title":{"rendered":"Texas Reads&gt;&gt; archiveGlenn Dromgoole"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"articleHeader\">\n<h1><span id=\"u47644\"><span id=\"u47645\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"59\" height=\"80\" src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/dromgoole%2c%20glenn_headshot2b.jpg\"  id=\"u47645_img\" \/><\/span><\/span><span id=\"u47643\">Texas Reads<\/span><span id=\"u47643-5\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonestarliterary.com\/texas-reads.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span id=\"u47643-3\">&gt;&gt; archive<\/span><\/a><\/span><span id=\"u47643-8\">Glenn Dromgoole<\/span><\/h1>\n<\/div>\n<h1 id=\"u47643-13\">11.15.15\u00a0\u00a0 New series focuses on women in Texas history<\/h1>\n<p id=\"u47643-18\"><span><span id=\"u48084\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Allie-Victoria-Tennant-and-the-Visual-Arts-in-Dall,8250.aspx\" id=\"u48078\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"readableLinkWithLargeImage\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer float\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/cummins%2c%20allie%20victoria%20tennant%20and%20the%20visual%20arts%20in%20dallas_cover%20sm.jpg\"  id=\"u48078_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/span><\/span><span>Texas A&#038;M University Press has announced a new book series, <\/span>Women in Texas History, sponsored by the Ruthe Winegarten Memorial Foundation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-25\">\u201cBooks in the series,\u201d write editors <span>Nancy Baker Jones<\/span> and <span>Cynthia Beeman,<\/span> \u201cwill focus on individual lives, events, and eras, as well as aspects of gender, race, class, and culture.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-34\">The first book in the series is a biography, <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Allie-Victoria-Tennant-and-the-Visual-Arts-in-Dall,8250.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Allie Victoria Tennant and the Visual Arts in Dallas<\/span><\/a><\/span> by Austin College history professor <span>Light Townsend Cummins<\/span> ($35 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-37\">Tennant (1892\u20131971), Cummins notes, was \u201cone of the best-known sculptors in Texas during her lifetime,\u201d especially for the \u201cTejas Warrior\u201d sculpture in Dallas\u2019s Fair Park. \u201cHer historical importance,\u201d he adds, \u201cstemmed not only from her art but also from her contributions to the development of cultural life in Dallas.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-39\">And, he adds, she \u201cplayed an important role in improving the status of women in Texas\u201d from the 1920s to the 1960s.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-42\">As part of the Women in Texas History series, two previously published books are being reissued in new paperback editions this fall:<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-50\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Texas-Suffragist,8378.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>A Texas Suffragist: Diaries and Writings of Jane Y. McCallum<\/span><\/a><\/span> (1878\u20131957), edited by <span>Janet G. Humphrey<\/span> ($22.95)<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-60\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.humanitiestexas.org\/exhibitions\/list\/by-title\/citizens-last-woman-suffrage-movement-texas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Citizen at Last: The Woman Suffrage Movement in Texas,<\/span><\/a><\/span> edited by <span>Ruthe Winegarten<\/span> and <span>Judith N. McArthur<\/span> ($24.95)<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-67\">Read more about all three titles on the A&#038;M Press webstie, <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">www.tamupress.com<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u47643-79\"><span>Legendary Texas Ranger:<\/span> <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Im-Frank-Hamer-Texas-Officer\/dp\/1933337648\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>\u201cI\u2019m Frank Hamer\u201d: The Life of a Texas Peace Officer<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>John H.
