{"id":378,"date":"2018-12-31T12:02:41","date_gmt":"2018-12-31T12:02:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress.etypegoogle10.com\/?p=378"},"modified":"2018-12-31T12:02:41","modified_gmt":"2018-12-31T12:02:41","slug":"12-13-15-news-briefs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.etypegoogle10.com\/?p=378","title":{"rendered":"12.13.15 News Briefs"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"articleHeader\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"u54875-6\"><span id=\"u54879\"><span id=\"u54880\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"459\" height=\"14\" src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/dottedline380.jpg\"  id=\"u54880_img\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"u54875-8\">Dallas&#8217;s Deep Vellum brings home a triple crown of honors in December<\/h1>\n<p id=\"u54875-11\"><span>It\u2019s been a banner week for Deep Vellum Publishing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-28\"><span id=\"u55118\"><a href=\"http:\/\/deepvellum.org\/product\/texas-the-great-theft\/\" id=\"u55112\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"readableLinkWithLargeImage\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer float\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/boullosa%2c%20great%20texas%20theft_cover%20sm.jpg\"  id=\"u55112_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/span>The Dallas-based not-for-profit publisher of literature in translation, whose name is a nod to both the rich culture of one of Dallas\u2019s most historic art districts and the legacy of fine books, has earned a couple of top honors, making the Pen Literary Awards shortlist for translation, for a book published in 2014, with <span><a href=\"http:\/\/deepvellum.org\/product\/texas-the-great-theft\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Texas: The Great Theft<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>Carmen Boullosa,<\/span> translated from the Spanish by <span>Samantha Schnee. <\/span>Also this week, Deep Vellum&#8217;s <span>Sphinx<\/span> by <span>Anne Garr\u00e9ta,<\/span> translated from the French by <span>Emma Ramadan,<\/span> has made the PEN longlist for translation.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-35\">On top of that, Deep Vellum founder <span>Will Evans<\/span> was recently nominated by <span id=\"u54875-33\">Dallas Morning News<\/span> Arts staff as Texan of the Year, alongside some of the region\u2019s most notable artists and arts professionals (including recording artist Erykah Badu, gospel and soul singer and songwriter Leon Bridges, Chad Houser of Cafe Momentum, and Jeremy Strick of the Nasher Sculpture Center).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-38\">This past Thursday night Deep Vellum hosted a grand opening reception for its new bookstore and community center in Deep Ellum. The new store is located at 3000 Commerce Street, Dallas TX 75226.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-45\">Learn more at <span><a href=\"http:\/\/deepvellum.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deepvellum.org<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-49\"><span id=\"u54891\"><span id=\"u54892\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"459\" height=\"14\" src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/dottedline380.jpg\"  id=\"u54892_img\" \/><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h1 id=\"u54875-52\">Photographer Jeremy Enlow signs Cowboys of the Waggoner Ranch, presents talk Dec. 18 in Wichita Falls<\/h1>\n<p id=\"u54875-57\">FORT WORTH \u2013 <span>As discussions continue for the sale<\/span> of the legendary 510,572-acre Waggoner Ranch, the future is still undetermined for what may or may not change for twenty-six cowboys at the largest ranch in the U.S. under one contiguous fence.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-64\"><span id=\"u55652\"><span id=\"u55646\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer float\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/enlow%2c%20cowboys%20of%20the%20waggoner%20ranch_cover%20sm.jpg\"  id=\"u55646_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/span>Texas photographer <span>Jeremy Enlow<\/span> captures a behind-the-scenes glimpse of these legends through his inaugural photography book, <span>Cowboys of the Waggoner Ranch<\/span> (with text by Jan Nichols Batts), for sale at an upcoming book signing and presentation by Enlow.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-67\">The event\u00a0 will be held Fri., Dec. 18, 2015, at The Kemp at The Forum, 2120 Speedway Avenue, Wichita Falls TX 76308. The book signing will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a presentation by the photographer at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-70\">Fort Worth-based Enlow was given exclusive access to the Cow Camp operation behind the prestigious reversed triple D brand of the Waggoner Ranch. \u201cMost everyone I know with a \u2018real\u2019 job couldn\u2019t last five minutes cowboying on the Waggoner,\u201d said Enlow. \u201cThey physically abuse their bodies with a finesse that\u2019s mastered with years of experience. There is no break until the job is done. Whether it rains, sleets or snows, the cowboys are always working.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u54875-73\">Enlow self-published the hardcover book (140 pages, 12\u201d x 10.5), which retails for $58.00. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the Waggoner Ranch Cowboys Fund.
