Cryan<\/span> tells the story of Steinmark\u2019s life and his inspirational fight against cancer from December 1969 to June 1971 (University of Texas Press, $24.95 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-37\">The new movie is <span id=\"u56836-31\">My All American,<\/span> based on another book, <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B004TLHP6I\/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?ie=UTF8&#038;btkr=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Courage Beyond the Game: The Freddie Steinmark Story<\/span><\/a><\/span> by Jim Dent, published in 2011.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-40\">Steinmark was a starting safety for UT during its national championship season in 1969. The week after Texas won the title with a comeback 15\u201314 \u201cGame of the Century\u201d victory over Arkansas, doctors discovered that Steinmark had a growing tumor above the knee on his left leg and amputated it.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-43\">His courageous fight against cancer sparked Congress to pass a bill and President Nixon to sign it declaring a \u201cNational War on Cancer.\u201d The football scoreboard at UT is named in Steinmark\u2019s memory.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-54\"><span>Chili:<\/span> <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Texas-Is-Chili-Country-History\/dp\/089672946X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Texas Is Chili Country<\/span><\/a><\/span> by Fort Worth author <span>Judy Alter<\/span> begins with a brief history of chili and includes a variety of recipes for chili and related dishes (Texas Tech University Press, $19.95 paperback).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-57\">The author warns right up front: \u201cA lot of things in this book are going to be hard for purists to handle.\u201d For example, Alter admits that she likes beans in her chili, which might be considered \u201ca hanging offense\u201d by some.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-61\">Well, better string me up. I like beans in my chili, too, served over rice! However you like your chili, you\u2019ll find some good reading \u2014 and good eating \u2014 in <span id=\"u56836-60\">Texas Is Chili Country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-67\"><span><span id=\"u56891\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Enemy-Within-Never-Did-Without,8111.aspx\" id=\"u56885\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"readableLinkWithLargeImage\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/littlejohn%2c%20the%20enemy%20within%20never%20did%20without_cover%20sm.jpg\"  id=\"u56885_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/span><\/span><span>Military Histories:<\/span> Two new titles from Texas A&#038;M University Press focus on Texans who fought in World War II and other wars.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-75\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/12-Texas-Aggie-War-Heroes,8242.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>12 Texas Aggie War Heroes: From World War I to Vietnam<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>James R. Woodall<\/span> is a collection of a dozen biographies of Texas A&#038;M graduates who distinguished themselves in military service ($29.95 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-86\"><span><a href=\"\/\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Tattooed on My Soul: Texas Veterans Remember World War II<\/span><\/a><\/span> edited by <span>Stephen M. Sloan, Lois E. Myers,<\/span> and <span>Michelle Holland,<\/span> includes seventeen first-person war narratives selected from Baylor University\u2019s extensive collection of oral histories regarding World War II ($29.95 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-89\">Two books on World War II prisoners held in Texas were published earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-97\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/books.simonandschuster.com\/The-Train-to-Crystal-City\/Jan-Jarboe-Russell\/9781451693669\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>The Train to Crystal City<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>Jan Jarboe Russell<\/span> (Scribner, $30 hardcover) concerns the little-known story of the Crystal City internment camp in South Texas, where Japanese, German, and Italian immigrants and their American-born children were detained without trial throughout the war (Scribner, $30 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u56836-107\"><span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Enemy-Within-Never-Did-Without,8111.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>The Enemy Within Never Did Without<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>Jeffrey L. Littlejohn<\/span> and <span>Charles H. Ford<\/span> tells about Camp Huntsville, one of the largest U.S. camps housing German prisoners of war.
