Also new: <span>Whiskey River Ranger: The Old West Life of Baz Outlaw<\/span> by <span>Bob Alexander<\/span> ($34.95 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u132715-53\"><span>Bill O\u2019Neal<\/span> of Carthage, the official Texas State Historian for the past four years, takes a fresh look at <span>Sam Houston: A Study in Leadership<\/span> ($19.95 paperback).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u132715-64\">Two selections for Texas Aggie dads: <span>The Fightin\u2019 Texas Aggie Defenders of Bataan &#038; Corregidor<\/span> by <span>John A. Adams Jr.<\/span> ($30 hardcover) and <span>12 Texas Aggie War Heroes: From World War I to Vietnam<\/span> by <span>James R. Woodall<\/span> ($29.95 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u132715-70\"><span>Big and Bright: Deep in the Heart of Texas High School Football<\/span> by <span>Gray Levy<\/span> ($27.95 hardcover) profiles successful football programs from different size schools in different parts of the state, including Abilene High.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u132715-97\">If dad likes good western historical novels, here are several compelling new ones to choose from: <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/531516\/ralph-compton-phantom-hill-by-carlton-stowers\/9781101990223\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Phantom Hill<\/span><\/a><\/span>and <span>Comanche Trail,<\/span> both by <span>Carlton Stowers<\/span> under the pen name of <span>Ralph Compton<\/span> ($6.99 paperback); <span>Buffalo Trail: A Novel of the American West<\/span> by <span>Jeff Guinn<\/span> ($27 hardcover); <span>Paradise Sky<\/span> by <span>Joe R. Lansdale<\/span> ($26 hardcover); <span>House of the Rising Sun<\/span> by <span>James Lee Burke<\/span> ($27.99 hardcover). The three-writer team has produced four entertaining murder mysteries set on the Texas Gulf Coast, the latest being <span>North Beach<\/span> ($11.99 paperback).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u132715-110\">Finally, if dad likes to cook, he can find more than 140 Texas recipes in <span>Jessica Dupuy\u2019s<\/span><span> United Tastes of Texas: Authentic Recipes from All Corners of the Lone Star State <\/span>($24.95 hardcover).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u132715-113\">There are more, of course, but these give you a place to start.
