Some will let you get close without displaying any aggressive behavior. Others will not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-42\">In her text, Hayes devotes chapters to such topics as: \u201cWhat Is an Alligator?,\u201d \u201cWhere Do Alligators Live?,\u201d \u201cLife History of Alligators,\u201d \u201cAlligator Tales,\u201d and \u201cAlligator-Human Interactions.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-45\">\u201cThe American alligator,\u201d she notes, \u201cis found only in the United States and ranges through ten states.\u201d Crocodiles, on the other hand, are restricted to extreme south Florida but also range through Central and South America.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-48\">Hayes points out that because the alligator is a protected species, \u201cit is illegal to catch a baby alligator to keep as a pet, harass an alligator in any way, or kill an alligator unless an individual is signed up for a specific alligator hunt.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-51\">Back when I was in elementary school, my friend Dan McGinnis kept a pet alligator in a fish pond in his back yard. Word would spread, alarming the neighbors, when Dan\u2019s pet got to where he could climb over the side of the shallow concrete pond. Finally, Dan and his dad released the alligator in a nearby bayou, and we all slept better.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-58\">Readers are invited to share their own alligator stories at <span><a href=\"http:\/\/alligatorsintexas.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span id=\"u167549-54\">AlligatorsInTexas.com<\/span><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-71\"><span><span id=\"u167556\"><span id=\"u167557\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer float\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/rayo%20and%20neece%2c%20tacos%20of%20texas_cover%20sm.jpg\"  id=\"u167557_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/span><\/span><span>Tacos:<\/span> If you really like tacos, here\u2019s a book for you \u2014 <span><a href=\"http:\/\/utpress.utexas.edu\/index.php\/books\/rayo-neece-tacos-of-texas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>The Tacos of Texas<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>Mando Rayo<\/span> and <span>Jarod Neece<\/span> (University of Texas Press, $19.95 paperback). The authors rounded up about twenty taco aficionados they call the Texas Taco Council to help them produce a guidebook to the best taco eateries and tasty recipes in ten Texas cities or areas (Abilene, Austin, Brownsville-McAllen, Corpus Christi, Dallas-Fort Worth, El Paso, Houston, Laredo, Midland-Odessa, and San Antonio).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u167549-74\">\u201cCovering the traditional to the modern,\u201d the authors write, \u201cthis story is about Texans\u2019 love for tacos.
