More than 290 authors will present at dozens of venues<\/span> in and around the state capitol the weekend of Nov. 5 and 6, 2016.\u00a0 Readers are encouraged to come see authors they have always loved and discover new favorites, and buy their books. New venues, including the Omni Hotel, the First Baptist Church, and a YA HQ Tent, have been added.<\/p>\n

San Antonio mayor Ivy R. Taylor announces fall 2016 book club selection, Ward’s The Fire This Time<\/h1>\n

<\/a><\/span><\/span>SAN ANTONIO \u2014 In an effort to promote literacy across San Antonio,<\/span> Mayor Ivy R. Taylor has announced her Mayor\u2019s Book Club fall selection.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am excited to have chosen The Fire This Time<\/span> by National Book Award winner Jesmyn Ward<\/span>,\u201d said Taylor. \u201cI understand the book is a powerful collection of essays and poems about race in the United States and it\u2019s so timely. I can\u2019t wait to read it and hear from San Antonians about their thoughts on the book.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Fire This Time<\/span> is divided into three distinct sections:<\/p>\n

\u2022 The first sheds light on the somber corners of American history;<\/p>\n

\u2022 The second grapples with\u00a0 current times; and<\/p>\n

\u2022 The third inspires readers to envision a brighter future.<\/p>\n

During the coming months, families are encouraged to check out a copy of The Fire This Time<\/span> at any of the San Antonio Library\u2019s twenty-eight locations or digitally at mysapl.org<\/a><\/span>, and to participate in discussions and events that focus on the themes of the book at their local branch library.<\/p>\n
