The artifact photographs are arranged chronologically, beginning with an ancient tool made from a rabbit jaw and continuing through cultural and historical items from modern-day Texas. Each picture is accompanied by a short text block.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-24\">Just a few examples: Davy Crockett\u2019s violin; the U.S. flag with twenty-eight stars; a saddle owned by Pancho Villa; Tom Landry\u2019s trading card from his football playing days; the Civil Rights Act signed by LBJ in 1968; and the Congressional Medal of Honor\u00a0 presented to Roy Benavidez in 1981.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-29\">If you\u2019re looking for a gift for that history buff on your list, <span id=\"u194863-27\">Seeing Texas History<\/span> would be a nice one.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-39\"><span id=\"u195717\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zondervan.com\/courage-to-soar\" id=\"u195709\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"readableLinkWithLargeImage\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/biles%2c%20courage%20to%20soar_cover%20sm.jpg\"  id=\"u195709_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/span><span>Simone\u2019s story:<\/span> <span>Simone Biles,<\/span> the diminutive Texas gymnast who captured millions of hearts while winning four gold medals in last summer\u2019s Olympics, tells her story in <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zondervan.com\/courage-to-soar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance<\/span><\/a><\/span> (Zondervan, $24.99 hardcover, with co-author Michelle Burford).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-42\">\u201cYou might think that going from a girl in foster care to being an Olympic gold medalist in Rio de Janeiro is the most amazing part of my journey,\u201d Biles writes. \u201cIt isn\u2019t. It\u2019s how I got there \u2014 or more accurately, who got me there \u2014 that is most miraculous.\u201d Her story, she continues, is about \u201chow my faith and my family made my wildest dreams come true.\u201d She said she hopes her experiences can help others embrace their dreams and find the \u201ccourage to soar.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-52\"><span>Murals:<\/span> Texas A&#038;M University Press has published a flexbound edition of <span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Texas-Post-Office-Murals,1558.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>The Texas Post Office Murals: Art for the People<\/span><\/a><\/span> by <span>Philip Parisi<\/span> ($29.95).<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-55\"><span id=\"u195730\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.tamupress.com\/product\/Texas-Post-Office-Murals,1558.aspx\" id=\"u195722\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"readableLinkWithLargeImage\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/p>\n<div class=\"readableLargeImageContainer\"><img decoding=\"async\"   src=\"https:\/\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/sites\/lonestarliterary.etypegoogle10.com\/files\/description\/parisi%2c%20the%20texas%20post%20office%20murals_cover%20sm2.jpg\"  id=\"u195722_img\" \/><\/div>\n<p><\/a><\/span>The colorful volume, issued in hardcover for $50 in 2004, describes the 106 works of art created for 69 post offices and federal buildings in Texas during the Depression. Many are still in good condition. The murals depicted colorful scenes and subject matter that people could relate to. A good many of the Texas scenes, for example, feature cattle, buffalo, horses, and Indians. The murals are listed and pictured alphabetically by city.<\/p>\n<p id=\"u194863-65\"><span>Body and spirit:<\/span> <span>Dr. Martha Hinman<\/span>, a professor at Hardin-Simmons University, combines her scientific knowledge of anatomy and her Christian faith to produce a very readable collection of short two-to-three-page essays reflecting on God\u2019s \u201camazing\u201d creativity.
