Her masterful cookbooks hit the spot every time. Thompson-Anderson’s latest offering serves up breakfast in a big Texas way but with lots of variety. And not to worry, if it’s libations you’re looking for, there are plenty of lovely ways to quench your thirst as well.

The section on party ideas and menus ranges from fun teenage sleepover food to an elegant Mother’s Day brunch. Breakfast in Texas is a superb resource for planning everything from Sunday breakfast to all your special occasions.

This is one to put on your countertop and use on a regular basis, unlike some cookbooks we tuck away and pull out for one or two recipes. I can see I’ll be using this book to cook many meals for my husband and me, and I can hardly wait to crack it open next time my kids are home for a visit, or for our next big brunch with my brother’s family.

The Cinnamon-Spiced Waffles are one of our favorites. Incorporating egg whites makes for a fluffy, light waffle. And I don’t know a single Texan (or anyone else for that matter) who wouldn’t want to devour the Spicy Candied Bacon. There are thoughtfully developed vegan recipes in the book as well.

My kitchen had the aroma of a fresh bakery or a Hill Country bed-and-breakfast when I tried some of the recipes. It was the kind of enticing scent that would pull a person right out of bed and straight to the breakfast table.

These recipes aren’t just for breakfast, either. They are perfect for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. And who doesn’t like a little breakfast for a late night supper?

As you turn the pages of Breakfast in Texas, you will experience the talent that photographer Sandy Wilson has for capturing the true essence of real Texas food.
